A Wind based Stand-Alone power system includes a Wind Generator, Tower Kit, Battery Bank, Inverter, and Safety Disconnects. Additional Balance of Systems (BOS) items would include electrical interconnection, grounding rods, lightning arrestors, and any data acquisition system (DAS).
Wind stand alone systems are based on the energy stored in batteries. These batteries are charged with the wind generator. The voltage of the generator and the battery, and the inverter must be the same. Higher voltage is preferred for larger power ratings.
The battery bank powers an inverter that provides 120 VAC power on-demand. Wind Generators for Battery Charging and Stand Alone applications include power ratings of 400 Watt, 900 Watt, 1,000 Watt, and 3000 Watt
This three part system of wind generator, battery storage, and power conditioning are interconnected using National Electric Code (NEC) guidlines.
