Distributed Generation (DG) is the production of electricity onsite. Instead of IMPORTING electricity from some Electric Service Provider (ESP), Distributed Generation is the practice of producing power where it is used.
Renewable Energy Generators such as Solar, Wind, MicroHydro, and combinations thereof, can Perform Work directly (water pumping), Charge Batteries, or be Exported to the Electrical Grid.
In the case of Direct Loads, such as water pumping, the solar array, or wind generators are connected, electrically, to the load. DG electrical power generation is a very exciting development in the electricity industry. By-passing the need for High Voltage Transmission Wires as is normally done for a wind facility, DG allows the user to put the Wind Generator onsite, and by-pass these expensive Transmission and Distribution (T&D) requirements to deliver Energy. Distributed Generation (DG) with wind generators can be structured several ways. For Energy Ratings (Kwh/Month) of 400 Kwh per month the Skystream 3.7 provides a direct connect solution. SMA also manufactures the WindBoy Series of grid tie inverters for wind generators. Built on the SunnyBoy experience the SMA systems have comprehensive Data Acquisition Systems.
